Question
The voltages developed across the and resistors shown in the figure are and respectively, with the polarity as marked. What is the power (in Watt) delivered by the voltage source?
Correct answer
(A) 5
Solution
Let be the current through the resistor and be the current through the resistor.
From the given polarities:
The current leaves N1 and enters N2 through the source. Since the source has its negative terminal at N1 and positive terminal at N2, the current flows from the negative to the positive terminal inside the source.
Power delivered by the source .
From the given polarities:
- For the resistor, the voltage is with at N2 and at N1. Thus, current flows from N2 to N1.
- For the resistor, the voltage is with at N1 and at N2. Thus, current flows from N1 to N2.
