Question
Rahul, Murali, Srinivas and Arul are seated around a square table. Rahul is sitting to the left of Murali. Srinivas is sitting to the right of Arul. Which of the following pairs are seated opposite each other?
Correct answer
(C) Srinivas and Murali
Solution
To determine the seating arrangement, let's place the four individuals at the four sides of a square table, assuming they are all facing the center:
1.Condition 1: Rahul is sitting to the left of Murali.
- If we place Murali at the bottom side of the table, his left (when facing the center) corresponds to the right side of the table. Therefore, Rahul is seated at the right side.
- We have two positions left: the top side and the left side.
- If we place Arul at the left side, his right (when facing the center) corresponds to the top side. Therefore, Srinivas is seated at the top side.
- Bottom: Murali
- Right: Rahul
- Top: Srinivas
- Left: Arul
- The person at the bottom is opposite the person at the top: Murali and Srinivas.
- The person at the right is opposite the person at the left: Rahul and Arul.
