Question
The diodes D1 and D2 in the figure are ideal and the capacitors are identical. The product RC is very large compared to the time period of the ac voltage. Assuming that the diodes do not breakdown in the reverse bias, the output voltage (in volt) at the steady state is __________
Correct answer
0 to 0
Solution
In the steady state, the top capacitor charges to the peak positive value of the input voltage, which is , through diode D1. Similarly, the bottom capacitor charges to the peak positive value of the input voltage, which is also , through diode D2. The output voltage is the difference between the voltages across the two capacitors. Due to the symmetry of the circuit and identical components, both capacitors charge to the same potential. Therefore, the steady-state output voltage .
